2 STRETCHES FOR EASING DISCOMFORT
Our physiotherapy team regularly provide their patients with exercises to do at home so they can continue to make progress between sessions. This way, patients can maintain the improvements they have already made in their sessions, but also go on improving, therefore reducing the time they have to spend having physiotherapy.
Our physiotherapists walk the patients through the exercises during their appointment and will often give them a work sheet as a reminder. However, we are working on creating videos of the exercises, in order to make things easier for our patients.
Here are two general stretches from our physiotherapist and osteopath Federico Febbraro that are great to use, even if you aren’t recovering from an injury.
This neck stretch is great for easing stiffness in the neck and upper shoulder. It’s also a good way to de-stress – take a moment to do this stretch if you find yourself overwhelmed. Stepping away from the stress in order to take the time to do this stretch alone helps! This is a great stretch to remember if you are in a desk bound job. Sitting for long periods and staring at a computer screen can cause discomfort in the neck and upper shoulders and this stretch can help loosen them – anything to encourage you away from your desk for a few minutes!
This second stretch is called a knee creeper stretch because your hands creep towards your knees as you twist. This is another stretch that is great for easing stiffness, this time in the torso, including the lower back and waist. This also gets you away from your desk and easing the discomfort that can come from being desk bound.
Please watch both videos all the way through before attempting the exercise. This way you know exactly what to do and what to avoid.
Federico is available on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 2pm. If you would like to book an appointment, you can call, email or book online.
