As the weather gradually – too gradually! – begins to warm up, our thoughts naturally turn to getting off the sofa. Exercise is not only a great way to socialise, it’s a great way to enjoy the sunshine and long evenings.

For some people, looking and feeling great is motivation enough. Others need a little more persuasion… And what better persuasion than the prospect of a big event?! Signing up for a race or other big event gives you the incentive to get out there and train. It’s much harder to talk yourself out of a training session when you have an upcoming event!

Get in the habit now and events are also a good way to keep you motivated through the autumn and winter!

On Sunday 15th June, there are two Race for Life 5ks on in Old Deer Park. The Forge ladies are planning to run the 11am one – we hope to see you there!

If you fancy more of a challenge, Race for Life are also offering a 10k at 11am on Saturday 21st June at Kempton Park Race Course. There are also several Pretty Muddy 5k races on Sunday 27th July in Hammersmith, if you don’t mind getting covered in mud!

There is no closing date for the Race for Life events, but as they are popular events they fill up quickly so it’s best to sign up as soon as you can. There’s no time like the present!

If you’ve run 5-10ks before and are starting to feel a little bored, why not check out Tough Mudder? If you think the Pretty Muddy events get dirty, think again! Tough Mudder isn’t just a race, it’s a 10 – 12 mile (18-20k) obstacle course designed to challenge strength, stamina and mental toughness. It’s all about helping your fellow runners through the course and – despite what you might think! – enjoying the experience. The nearest event for Richmond locals is coming up in October, so plenty of time to get lots of training in!

If you’re looking for a challenge on two wheels rather than two feet, try the London to Windsor bike ride. It starts on Richmond Green on Sunday 7th September and you have choose your challenge.

Let us know if you’ve signed up for any challenges this year or even if you’re planning to start training for an event next year! We love to hear your stories. Remember, if you need advice before signing up to an event, or if you’re struggling with an injury – we can help! Give us a call on 020 8332 6184 or book online.
