WHAT WE DO
– Sprains
– Strains
– Irritated tendons
– Ligament damage
– Broken bones
– Pre and post-surgery rehabilitation.
Any part of the body can be injured, including the muscles, bones, joints and connective tissues (tendons and ligaments), with ankles and knees being particularly prone to damage. Also, some injuries occur more frequently in certain sports.
The most common causes of sports injuries are: an accident, such as a fall or some form of contact; insufficient warm-up; poor technique; or simply doing too much too soon.
Sport injuries can be acute (traumatic) or chronic (overuse).
CHRONIC SPORTS INJURIES
Our Sports Injury Therapists will carry out a thorough assessment to identify the underlying causes, so suitable modifications can be made and you can get back to enjoying your sport as fast as possible
HOW TO MANAGE YOUR SPORTS INJURY
For serious acute injuries, we advise you to go to your local A&E department.
If your injury is minor you can treat it yourself by:
– Over-the-counter painkillers may be suitable, such as paracetamol or ibuprofen to ease pain.
-Using PRICE for the first 48 to 72 hours to minimise damage and aid recovery.
PRICE stands for protection, rest, ice, compression and elevation.
Protection – stop the activity and protect the affected area from further injury
Rest – avoid physical activity and rest the affected joint or muscle.
Ice – apply an ice pack to the affected area for 15-20 minutes every two to three hours.
Compression – bandage the injured area firmly to limit swelling.
Elevation – raise the injured body part above heart level whenever possible.
If your symptoms are severe or don’t improve within a few days, you should seek further medical assistance. Our Physiotherapists, Osteopaths and Sports Therapists can provide you with advice and an appropriate and effective treatment and rehabilitation programme.
