The 1st of July was the hottest on record and it’s only continued! How have you been dealing with the heat? Thriving or melting?

There is a lot you can do to combat the heat and still enjoy the long summer days, here are some of our tips…

Hydrate!
Of course this had to be top of the list, as it’s the most important thing you can do in this weather and is something we tell our patients throughout the year.

Carry a bottle of water, sip at some herbal tea, eat deliciously cooling fruits like watermelon that have a high water content. Whatever you do, ensure that you are getting enough water. The most important thing you can do this summer is carry a bottle of water on your commute. The hot weather often affects trains and being stuck on a train without water is not a good idea!

Wear the right clothes
Summertime can be a difficult time for work attire, as we have to tread the balance between professional and cool. Try to wear lighter colours and looser fitting items of clothing.

Your work out wear is also important, especially if you work out outside. In Richmond we are lucky to have an abundance of sportswear shops, so make sure you’re dressed ready for the heat before you step outside for a run. Lots of the practitioners here are sporty themselves, so remember to ask for their recommendations next time you’re in!

Be aware of your body
The heat can prevent you from hitting targets you previously met with ease as your body is under an extra strain. Listen to your body and be sure to drink enough, take breaks when you need to and, most importantly, stop when it gets too much. If you push yourself too hard, you could easy end up ill or injured.

If you have pushed yourself too hard this summer, our team can help. Call us if you need to book an appointment and we can get you fitted in as soon as possible.
