Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture
FACIAL REJUVENATION ACUPUNCTURE
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a growing trend among people searching for natural anti-ageing therapy rather than having Botox or fillers which contain harsh chemicals and have to be continuously maintained.
Originating over 2000 years ago, acupuncture is a treatment derived from ancient Chinese medicine, which involves inserting very fine needles into specific areas of the body with the aim of improving health. It is used as a treatment including migraines, hay fever and general aches and pains and the NHS currently uses acupuncture as a form of chronic pain management.
The traditional Chinese theory suggests that an energy known as Qi flows through the body along channels called meridians and if the flow is blocked it can cause ill health. Acupuncture aims to restore the flow of Qi and trigger the body’s natural healing response.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is a non-invasive, safe, gentle and natural anti-ageing treatment and can help to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, whilst also improving skin tone and colour and increasing the production of collagen. This is done using acupuncture needles to improve blood flow and stimulate cell re-growth.
WHO CAN FACIAL REJUVENATION ACUPUNCTURE HELP?
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is suitable for those with fine lines, wrinkles, sagging and tired looking skin. Anyone who wants to improve their skin’s overall appearance could benefit from a course of treatment.
However, if you have had Botox injections we would recommend waiting 3 months after this treatment before having Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture.
Whilst we are able to offer Acupuncture during pregnancy, due to the different treatment approaches we would not recommend Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture if you are pregnant. Also, if you have any heart disorders, diabetes mellitus, high blood pressure, suffer from migraine headaches or are prone to bleeding or bruising we would not recommend this treatment.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
Maureen McCann, Acupuncturist at The Forge Clinic, uses very fine facial needles which are inserted into the problem areas on the face causing minor trauma to the skin. The healing process stimulates cell re-growth and rejuvenates the skin by increasing the circulation bringing blood and oxygen to where it is needed most. This increased circulation can help to improve skin tone and colour, whilst encouraging collagen production to improve the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Needles may also be used on other areas of the body to address any blockages allowing energy to circulate properly around the face and body to improve the bodies overall balance.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Each treatment lasts up to 90 minutes and it is advisable to wear as little make up as possible. Your first appointment will start with a full consultation to ensure that it is safe to go ahead with treatment. Following this your practitioner will ask you to lie down on the treatment couch and begin by cleansing your skin before inserting the needles. There may also be some needles inserted into points on the body if there are any specific blockages. Treatment ends with a soothing face massage using Argan Oil and advice on aftercare.
Facial Rejuvenation Acupuncture is safe with no side effects, however, some patients report slight bruising at the site of some of the needles but these heal within a week
We have found that some patients start to notice improved skin tone after 2-3 sessions with more noticeable effects after 6 sessions. We recommend periodic top ups to maintain the effects of the treatment and you can also extend these benefits by doing facial acupressure and massage yourself at home. You may wish to book a general Acupuncture appointment to keep the body balanced and reduce any signs of stress, which can influence the appearance of the face and skin.
DOES THE TREATMENT HURT?
This is the question we get asked the most with Acupuncture and the answer to this is no. The facial acupuncture needles are incredibly fine, often finer than a strand of hair. Although some patients report feeling a slight prick as the needles are inserted, the majority of patients do not feel the needles at all.
Most patients report feeling very relaxed and rested after Acupuncture as the treatment increases the release of endorphins which are the ‘feel good’ chemicals in our brains.
