SPORTS MASSAGE IN RICHMOND
SPORTS MASSAGE RICHMOND
Sports Massage is a type of massage therapy for joints and their soft tissue attachments. It is focused on easing muscle tension, improving circulation, aiding injury recovery and promoting relaxation.
Athletes and individuals with an active lifestyle will often receive Sports and Remedial Massage Therapy as part of their training activity to keep them performing at their optimum. The massage can help to speed up the recovery time between exercise sessions, improve performance and help to manage injuries. However, Sports Massage is not limited to only sports enthusiasts and athletes! Anyone can benefit from this type of deeper muscle tissue massage, regardless of age, gender or fitness ability.
Sitting at a desk can also cause muscular tension. Regular treatment can help ease the discomfort caused by the tension in your neck and back before you begin to suffer on-going pain. Our practitioners are committed to enhancing your well-being, whether you’re an athlete striving for peak performance, an active individual or someone dealing with the aches and pains associated with day-to-day life – or a combination of all three!
Treatment might involve a range of techniques depending on your presenting complaint. This could include deep tissue massage, myofascial release (which works on the connective tissue around the muscles), muscle energy techniques (assisted stretching), passive stretches and trigger point therapy.
Tight muscles can emit pain sensations when worked on, so your practitioner will work with you to ensure that the pressure they are using is comfortable for you. It should never be a case of no pain, no gain – believe it or not Sports Massage should feel like a comfortable experience!
There are a several types of Sports Massage offered depending on what you require.
- Pre-event Massage prepares the body for physical activity, enhancing flexibility, and optimising performance for an upcoming sporting event. This type of treatment can be received from 48 hours prior to your event and would be aimed at improving performance. This means lighter techniques would be used.
- Post-Event Massage is aimed at supporting and speeding up recovery following a sporting event by reducing muscle soreness, improving circulation to remove toxin build up, minimising delayed onset muscle soreness (DOMS), and promoting relaxation. Post event massage can be offered any time from the end of the event up to 48 hours after but would involve lighter techniques to aid recovery.
- Injury-Specific Massage targets areas of pain or discomfort, alleviate symptoms and accelerate the healing process.
- Maintenance Massage involves regular treatments to prevent injuries, enhance flexibility, and improve mobility and function. We would recommend this type of treatment at least 48 hours post event.
