WHAT IS SYMPHYSIS PUBIS DYSFUNCTION (SPD)?
Chiropractor Jean Luc has been working in the medical profession for over 20 years. In that time, he has seen an awful lot of different ailments and has treated many different people – from children, to the elderly, as well as pregnant women.
While he often sees patients who suffer with different muscular skeletal problems, there is one condition that is so simple to treat, yet often goes undiagnosed. This is a condition called Symphysis Pubis Dysfunction (SPD).
Men can suffer from SPD, but it is more commonly found in women. The condition is caused by the excessive movement of the part of the pelvis called the pubic bone. Usually the pain and discomfort experienced comes from the misalignment of this bone or the rest of the pelvis.
SPD is commonly associated with pregnancy – women can suffer from it during pregnancy or after the birth, due to the change in their bodies and the pressure experienced during childbirth. If a man is suffering from SPD, it is likely to be the result of injury.
What Jean Luc finds alarming is that often the patients he treats for SPD have been living with it for months, if not years. The relief that can be provided in one or two treatments is incredible. Jean Luc also aims to educate his patients, explaining exactly what is wrong and how he is correcting it, so that he can then show them exercises to strengthen the area and hopefully prevent a recurrence.
The treatment for SPD is non-invasive; Jean Luc uses what is called a resistant release to realign the bone.
