DO YOU NEED NUTRITIONAL THERAPY?
If you experience back pain you are likely to book an appointment with one of our Osteopaths, Physiotherapists or Chiropractor. If you’re feeling tense, you may book for a massage with one of our massage therapists. But how do you know when to see Julie, our Nutritional Therapist?
Allergies/Food intolerance
If you are concerned that you might have a food allergy/intolerance, Julie may be able to shed some light on the issues you may be facing. Some simple changes and investigations can often be all it takes to get you feeling yourself again.
Auto immune conditions
If you have been diagnosed with an auto immune condition such as MS, Graves Disease, Crohns Disease or Rheumatoid Arthritis, nutritional therapy may help support you and your symptoms. Again using a functional medicine approach, Julie has seen great results with her auto-immune clients. The programmes are all very individual.
Digestive Issues
If you are suffering from IBS, tummy problems or bloating, nutritional therapy may be able to help you figure out what has triggered these symptoms. Avoidance isn’t always a permanent thing – if you have an issue with FODMAP’s for example, (sugars found in fruits, vegetables, grains and pulses) this could be due to an imbalance in the bacteria in the small intestine, often called small intestinal bacterial overgrowth (SIBO). If tests come back positive for this, a programme is put in place to eradicate the harmful bacteria and over a few months various strategies are put in place to re-populate the small intestine with the healthy bacteria allowing the re-introduction of the FODMAP foods. You can ask your GP to be tested for SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth), this isjust a simple breath test. Julie can then help you with dietary changes and dietary supplementation, the GP may offer you a more standard treatment of antibiotics.
Female health issues
Suffering from PMS or PCOS? Addressing the underlying imbalance is key, looking at your stress levels, cortisol and insulin spikes during the day, these may be having a negative impact the production of your sex hormones. Lifestyle strategies along with dietary changes and support will be individually designed for your particular goal.
Stubborn Weight Loss
We are told that to lose weight we need to reduce our calories and exercise more – but what if that just isn’t working for you?
If you are really struggling to lose weight, despite doing all ‘the right things’ or if you’ve been losing weight and have hit a plateau, Julie may be able to help you. She uses a functional medicine approach, which means that she will look at possible underlying causes, lifestyle and genetic factors. It can be a process of elimination, this approach means it has lasting effects on weightless and the future of your overall health.
There is always biochemistry at play, and what you eat, drink and feel all impact your physiology and therefore your health.
