“I am sure you are all familiar with the saying ‘it’s all in the mind’, but what you may not be so familiar with is the truth in this statement.
We have recently seen a revival in the movement towards understanding how we can change the our futures by changing our thoughts. As an example try this little exercise:
Think of something now or in the past that upsets you.
Take your time with your eyes closed to visualize this situation.
Now rate this experience on how bad it makes you feel from 1 to 10. 1 being little to no affect you, to 10 being really bad.
Now close your eyes and think of the same feeling, but this time make yourself smile, the bigger the smile the better.
I suggest you do this in private, or the person next to you will wonder why you look so happy!
Now rate how you feel from 1 to 10.
What you will find is that you feel much better, you will notice an improvement in your score. This is because when you smile it fools the brain into thinking you are okay with this feeling, and thereby disarms the reactive response.
In my years as a Hypnotherapist I am still amazed at how only after a few session and sometimes only one, people make radical changes to their lives. This can be from something like stopping smoking, or a past trauma, or even fear of flying.
Recently, I have seen a rise in the number of children with anxiety attending the clinic. There are many reasons for this, and understandably for parents this can be very distressing. There are many misconceptions about Hypnotherapy; for example, I can’t make you do anything against your will, so if you want to have hypnotherapy, just call the clinic and I will be happy to talk to you.”
