SCIATICA AND SLIPPED DISCS
Recent research shows that the discs in your spine also have nerve sensation. Many patients will say their pain is probably caused by their slipped disc, but while this is true, slipping a disc is not as easy as people think!
The discs are housed between vertebra (your back bones) and they act like the spine’s shock absorbers. To avoid the excruciating pain of a slipped disc, we should:
1) Maintain correct posture
2) Bend the knees when lifting
3) Eat a good diet that supports the ongoing chemical structure that helps maintain the surrounding ligaments and soft tissue (muscles).
In order to treat slipped discs, Jean Luc suggests you start with the basics. He believes diet is the foundation of all good health. As the old saying goes, “Let medicine be thy food and let food be thy medicine.” You can help to support your recovery by starting the day with a simple detox drink using ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen cupboards:
- Grate a tablespoon of ginger into boiling water.
- Add a teaspoon of honey (more if have a sweet tooth!)
- Add a slice of lemon
The acidity of the lemon, like grapefruit and lime, actually converts to alkaline in the body. Drink this first thing in the morning, as soon as you get up, for at least a week. Many patients like this so much they drink it all the time!
