HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training and combines short, intense periods of exercise with lower intensity recovery periods, designed to improve fat burning.
HIIT is ideal for a busy schedule. If you’ve been struggling to fit long work outs into your schedule, HIIT could be the answer for you. A great way to start using this form of exercise is a short 15 minute work out where you run as fast as you can for 1 minute, walk for 2 minutes and repeat that circuit 5 times. You’ll feel the effects much more than a plodding hour long jog and you can easily fit those 15 minutes into your lunch break.
Another great benefit of HIIT is that it doesn’t need any equipment! You don’t need to have a gym membership either. You can simply strap on your trainers and head out of the door. This means you can’t be put off by not having the right thing or having to get to the gym before your work out even begins. No more excuses!
The lack of equipment and the fact you can do it in a short space of time means you can also take your work out anywhere. If you have to go away for work, pack your work out gear and your fitness needn’t lapse while you’re away. It also forces you out into a new place, so you might even spot somewhere nice for your next lunch meeting!
Work hard during the high intensity moments of HIIT and you will see results. As with all fitness trends, we always recommend getting an MOT with one of our practitioners before you start, in order to get advice to avoid injury and get the very best out of your work out.
