As you already know, keeping yourself hydrated is very important. Magazines are full of the beauty benefits – from glowing skin to reduced cellulite, but you very rarely do you read about why water is so important for your body.

Water is the stuff of life – our bodies are more than 50% water and therefore keeping our hydration levels topped up is vital.

Water is part of some of the most important processes in the human body. These processes include, transporting nutrients around the body, getting rid of waste, the correct functioning of your digestive system and the controlling of your temperature. If you are dehydrated, all of these functions are disrupted and you can end up feeling under the weather.

Our practitioners always encourage their patients to drink enough after treatment, so here’s another reminder to make sure you’re getting enough H2O every day! It’s especially important if you exercise regularly as you can easily become dehydrated, which can lead to headaches.

Here are some tips to help up your fluid intake:

Set an alarm
Set a regular alarm on your phone which will alert you to the fact you need to stop what you’re doing and have a drink. This will also get you away from your desk for a few minutes – so take advantage of these water breaks to rest your eyes or have a good stretch.

Carry a bottle
The easiest way to ensure you’re drinking enough is to carry a water bottle with you. You won’t end up wasting money on buying water while you’re out (if you’re thirsty, you’re already dehydrated!) and if you have a bottle in your bag, you’re more likely to remember to have regular sips.

Have a cue
Decide on something that will remind you to reach for your glass. Maybe you’ll decide to have a sip whenever an email comes through, or whenever you need to get up to get something. Think of a little something that happens regularly throughout the day and try to have a drink every time it happens. It will soon become a habit.
